The strongest feature is the use of dynamic geometry to illustrate properties of geometrical shapes. The Meningitis-Learning website is a fun, informative, interactive alternative to traditional classroom-based lessons. This website is clearly related to Key Stage 3 and Key Stage 4 PSHE but there are opportunities for use in Citizenship, Science and Media Studies. The site is useful for Science (Cells and Life Processes, Classification and Disease). It provides wonderful, detailed images to promote further understanding of the microscopic world, but gives very little in the way of information. I found it great for discussing cell structure and adaptation, particularly with Year 7; and Year 10 pupils used it to incorporate images into their own researched documents on blood and disease. Being able to use an interactive whiteboard and projector was excellent.

This tool has two scenarios, both of which can be manipulated and used as required by the user. One, the Canadian pond weed experiment, is quite difficult to set up in the classroom in terms of contributing variables and repeatablility. The software can remove these problems and fairly accurately show what should really happen under various conditions. It can be used as a plenary to the actual experiment, a computer-based investigation, a quick and easily set up revision topic or a general teaching tool.

The Patterns of Reaction software is a versatile bit of kit. The self-marking aspect of the package is a major advantage. The database contains 800 equations and the 21 different patterns of reactions should cover most specification requirements. The only notable exception to this is half-equations. I will be using the software in the lead-up to the exams this summer with my Year 11 groups to ensure they are fully prepared for their final exams. A very useful piece of software.

The series of high-quality animations with the facility for switching on and off arrows for current and forces and the ability to reverse polarity allows some investigation by pupils. This is an excellent site that children enjoyed using; it has more to offer than just myths, with music, activities and facts also available. At the moment the site is under development and there aren't too many myths, but it does appear that others will be added shortly. Download times for the images could be a disadvantage when the site is used in the classroom. With help, Special Educational Needs children will enjoy visiting this site.
