Learning For Life is designed to work through PSHE to provide children with an understanding of social behaviour and feelings and the rights of others, but when used with Key Stage 1 children, it would be better suited to ‘circle time’. Its format captured older children's interest with the help of its lively animated cartoon graphics and vibrant sound. However, there is no opportunity to monitor or assess children’s understanding of the issues, and wrong answers are not corrected. The spoken text is not as helpful as it could be as it cannot be repeated.

This program aims to teach a large proportion of the Shape and Space component of the intermediate GCSE Syllabus using ICT. However, it has a lot to offer teachers, and pupils will be more interested and learn more using this software because of the interactive content and interesting way in which the topics are presented. I am sure I have not completely seen its full potential, but I will be using it more and encouraging others in the department to use it.

This program consists of seven activities that help pupils to tell the time and develop their skill in handling money. Life Stuff is a subscription-based website although a free trial version is also available. It provides 14-19-year-olds and their teachers with resources for the Curriculum areas of Citizenship, PSHE and Careers. The interactive games are a fun and appealing way to get students to think about a variety of subjects including human rights, sexual health topics and work-related topics. It starts by introducing the program itself and explains how the pupils will work with it. Literacy Bank 5 would be a useful addition to ICT in Literacy as it is easy to set up and use and the text is simple to read. This program provides over 160 Sentence and Word Level activities. These are based on the National Literacy Strategy and designed to engage the interest of the pupils. These are not, however, differentiated. The quality of sound and graphics is good and the desktop characters will appeal to pupils.

Literacy Bank 6 is an easily manageable resource of printable and onscreen exercises on the Word and Sentence Level objectives covered within Year 6 of the National Literacy Strategy. Pupils’ attainment within each exercise is recorded and exportable, and pupils are given instant feedback on their progress. The program is not without drawbacks in terms of differentiation and support for pupils who get exercises wrong, but the program is user-friendly and pupils will enjoy it.

This site offers help with planning for Literacy work and has a wide selection of 'Big Book' work available. It offers ideas and suggestions appropriate to the selected age group and represents current good practice. It is a very user-friendly site that is easy to navigate through and offers examples of work that provide clearly referenced National Literacy Strategy links. A Special Educational Needs area of the site is still under development, so at present differentiation will depend on the teacher’s tailoring of the work available.

For simple, easy to play, but engaging games, this site is very good. There are no extras to download and the games are explained in the clear instructions given. The main drawback is the first page, which is just a long list. Splitting it into linked pages and making the links to games more child-friendly would improve the site. The children in my class ask for the site to be put on and enjoy using it. It also has an interactive game where children can send their own designs to Lulu, who then posts them on the site along with the originator's name. Well worth a visit.
