The site enables pupils to research many aspects of Hanukkah for themselves in an interesting and motivating way. The sound features are a strong point for this site, as hearing songs and blessings in a different language adds to the experience. Some prior knowledge of the story of Hanukkah and some Jewish terminology would be useful.

The Health Beats CD-ROM series is an excellent program to be used in the teaching of the PSHE Curriculum. Each CD-ROM deals with a different aspect of the framework and is presented in a bright, colourful and user-friendly environment. The main body of the program takes the form of a cartoon which centres on a group of friends and their adventures. Overall, this is an excellent program, within a highly effective series of CD-ROMs which should be on the shelves of every PSHE department.

This website consists of a suite of materials covering all of the core, and many of the optional, study units for History across Key Stage 3. The database of text and visual resources covers 1066 to modern times in Britain and from Ancient China to the Viet Nam War in world history. This is a strong collection of resources and includes web-links, worksheets, short comprehension tests, timelines and a glossary. Many of the items can be copied and pasted into other applications.

This site covers the whole Key Stage 3 National Curriculum in Science. There is guidance on the planning and writing-up process, and biographies of some important scientists. The three sciences are treated individually, but under common themes such as Quick Facts or Key Ideas. Key words are hyperlinked and open in new windows, making for easy navigation and providing a limited form of differentiation. The site would be useful to support homework tasks if students are without textbooks.

This Key Stage 2/3 CD-ROM is based on the Hennings Haus television series and is ideal for non-specialist teachers who want to try teaching German to Primary School pupils. The title contains high quality video clips from the programmes as well as a printable vocabulary list, transcripts of the videos and a variety of language-based worksheets and activities. A range of topics are covered but since the title does not cover the very basics, it is probably best as a second step to learning German.

This is an excellent resource which allows History Key Stage 3 and 4 students to examine the Battle of the Somme from the 1916 film of the same name. Using video clips from the film, sound effects, music, modern media clips filmed on the battlefields, captions and their own commentary, students can design a documentary that tells the story of the Somme from different perspectives. Extensive documentation is provided and the program is appropriate for use in a number of other Curriculum areas including English, Media Studies, ICT and Citizenship.

This website is a superb resource, huge in scope, and high in quality. To search a website and find equally good content for every topic is extremely rewarding. The teacher resources are superb, from a Forum to share opinions with other colleagues, to the ability to download data files for use in lessons. The Revision Games section for students is particularly impressive. Some websites have difficulty in living up to the hype, but this one does.

This website is written to support the Science Key Stage 3 National Curriculum and has some very good resources. I found the technician’s section very useful. The site is well presented and the navigation is simple and effective. For users of the publisher’s other materials, this is an essential site that enriches students’ learning. For those who do not use their other publications, a little more exploration and preparation will be needed to make full use of the website.

The ‘How has life in Britain changed since 1948?’ website has been designed to support particular areas of the QCA Unit 13 of the same name. The focus of the program is on how telecommunications have developed over time, although there are some references made to other changes. The booklet contains a vast amount of information related to Britain since 1948 as well as lesson suggestions.
