Maths Online provides a large quantity of teaching materials suitable for Key Stage 3 Mathematics. Some Key Stage 4 activities could be useful for the more able Key Stage 3 students. The website is subscription based and the teacher can tailor student access with the Study Room feature. There are online activities which take the form of interactive games, worksheets and simulations. The printable materials are mainly lesson plans, teaching ideas, mathematical information and worksheets. The useful online activities could be used to introduce a new topic via a novel ICT approach, or strengthen and reinforce classroom-learnt skills. The website is generally easy to navigate and contains high quality resources that will interest most teachers and students. Read KS3 evaluation... |

The classroom evaluation describes just one particular use of a part of the website. The class were given the URL and access codes and directed to visit a specific part of the website. They were given a very brief demonstration of how to play the transformation games by means of a data projector. The purpose of the lessons was to provide the class with a fun way to improve and practise their understanding of the topic area Transformations. The dynamic appeal of the website’s games applets kept the class focused on the project for longer and resulted in a better outcome than a purely pen and paper approach. They were thus able to make more progress. Also, some ‘mathematically neutral’ students ended up being more motivated to take their studies a bit more seriously, especially if the site can be accessed again when relevant.
