Inspirations Version 7 allows teachers and pupils to create flow charts, concept maps and outlines for use in many areas of the Curriculum. It provides templates for Literacy, Science and Foundation subjects. The software is quite easy to pick up, and would be familiar to Key Stage 2 students as the presentation is similar to art packages such as Dazzle. Pupils with Special Needs and pupils in Year 3 and 4 may find it confusing. However, the ability to hear text being spoken in Version 7 makes the software more accessible. Full utilisation of this title would require investment of time by the teacher following the clear tutorial supplied in the supporting documentation.

Inspiration was used with a mixed-ability class of Year 6 pupils to produce mind maps in Science and in Literacy. In Science, pupils produced mind maps to summarise their learning and as an aid to future topic revision. In Literacy, the mind maps showed what the pupils understood about the characters and the relationships between them in ‘A Midsummer Night’s Dream’.
