KS2 Content Evaluation

'Lessons in a box' is a Key Stage 2 numeracy website. Through a series of carefully planned lessons in the form of videos, worksheets, games, quizzes and assessments pupils are given the opportunity to learn key skills. The site has many strengths including its lesson vidoes, which demonstrate in a methodical way a particular teaching objective. The Beat the teacher round is sure to prove a favourite amongst pupils as its interactive approach adds another dimension to learning. The site is fairly easy to navigate with an introduction at the top of the screen on the home page. The site lacks a 'help' facility, which is invaluable to some teachers lacking ICT confidence. It also uses a rather small, white font making the screen look too busy in places. On the whole it is a well thought out concept, and provides stimulating learning for its users.

KS2 Classroom Evaluation

The children really enjoyed using the website, it was highly motivational and I was glad of the opportunity to see who was able to do what. I used wireless laptops and got groups of children to access the website and work within the class setting before encouraging them to log on at home. The teaching sequences were enjoyed by the children and it allowed me to give a separate teaching input to differentiated groups - giving me more freedom within my lesson. The website supports Numeracy in Key Stage 2 and does offer the children a wide coverage of skills and support. I found the product to be extremely useful and was pleased to see the high levels of enthusiasm from my pupils.
