The Web Detectives CD-ROM is designed to teach children about the use of the Internet and web pages. It is designed in a way that makes the user feel they are on the Internet but as there is no need for an Internet connection it is safe for all children and can be used by schools which do not have an Internet connection.There are two parts to the program, both appearing onscreen in the form of a talking book. The book is narrated in clear English. The first part contains a series of tutorials showing web-related skills and most of them give the pupil the opportunity to practise this skill. The second part of the program is presented in the form of an interactive adventure where the children get the chance to practise and consolidate the skills they learnt in the tutorials. It would be possible for children to work independently using this CD-ROM or it could be used on an interactive whiteboard to demonstrate the Internet and web pages to the whole class.
