Lesson Startsheets 3 is an excellent compilation of over 750 files which cover all aspects of the Numeracy Curriculum. The activities complement the Secondary Living Worksheets 3 at Key Stage 3 and Key Stage 4, which follow a similar format. The worksheets allow the teacher to introduce many of the topics to be found in those compilations using an interactive whiteboard, digital projector or management system, such as Ranger or RM Tutor. There is a selection of open-ended and closed worksheets. The teacher has absolute control of the input of the open-ended worksheets. All the worksheets self-check solutions for any problem that may be set. A wide variety of strategies are used. All sheets have text boxes which are open to input. The worksheets are supported by the 'Lesson notes' window, which can be hidden or displayed. Lesson Startsheets 3 provides a very wide-ranging, progressive and comprehensive support for the maths teacher looking for interactive lesson starters.

The software was primarily used to teach a wide range of Data Handling topics to a Year 9 class. Each lesson starter sheet was used with a data projector and the electronic whiteboard, and it was a very straightforward matter to operate within the classroom. It was used to introduce topics to reinforce understanding and as a fun and individual way of involving the class in group work. The pupils enjoyed the opportunity to come to the front of the class to input their own answers into the electronic whiteboard. Since carrying out this evaluation on Data Handling, I have started to use the product in numerous other areas of Key Stage 3 and 4 of the National Curriculum for Mathematics.
