Magic Grandad's Seaside Holiday is another useful piece of software from Sherston. It is a good quality, user-friendly resource which can be used for whole class, group and individual work within the Key Stage 1 History Curriculum. The activities and tasks are motivating and are appropriate for the age of pupils for which it is designed. Although there are no claims that the materials are differentiated, there is a Teacher Options area on the CD-ROM which allows the teacher some control over what tasks and activities are available to the children. With appropriate adult support most children in Key Stage 1 would be able to use the material effectively.

The children enjoyed using this software. They were motivated by the idea of exploring and looking for clues. They enjoyed listening to the different sayings and quotes from 'Mother' and this prompted a lot of discussion in the children's groups. The children were keen to take their turn and were motivated by the different video clips and photographs. I am looking forward to using the other themes with the children at a future date.
