Flashyducks is an interactive resource for Mathematics teaching at Foundation and Key Stage 1. It includes children's discs which can be taken home to use activities specified by the teacher. Reports of the activities attempted and the results obtained are recorded and can be printed out or saved to disc to return to the teacher at school. The activities are age-appropriate and attractive and cover all areas of the National Curriculum topics and National Numeracy Strategy for Reception, Year 1 and Year 2. The assessment tools are a useful addition to the program but the emphasis on the Standard Assessment Tests may result in too narrow a focus, encouraging teaching to the test rather than exploration and investigation at the pace of the individual child.

I used this piece of software with a class as part of our daily Numeracy lesson. The software would be best used with a projector and interactive whiteboard, but I used a digital projector to project the image straight on to the wall, which worked almost as well. I used Flashyducks as a whole class activity. I had saved a selection of activities into a folder to use during the lesson and then brought these up onto the screen. For some activities the children answered the questions and I entered their answers, for others the children came and entered their own answers. The bright, bold graphics engaged the children's attention and the interactive activities were very enjoyable for them to use.
