Alphabet Soup offers a lot to the user and has some really good ideas, but is very frustrating to use.

Alphabet Soup offers the full alphabet in initial sounds/letters together with a sound activity for each letter, together with one that shows, then asks a child to write the same letter.

Following a lot of work on initial sounds and letters during the autumn and spring terms in the Reception year, as well as many sessions using many different styles of software, I introduced 'Alphabet Soup' to the class in the ICT suite using the interactive whiteboard. I followed this in the classroom as an independent activity, either during the Literacy Hour, or during sessions when the computer was a 'choosing' activity. Pairs of children were selected. They played the games and continued to explore the program. I also targeted pairs, or individuals to work with an adult who could direct them to letters they were having problems with.

The children and I enjoyed using Alphabet Soup in the classroom. It offered the children access to the whole alphabet and they were able to demonstrate their ICT ability in using the program too.
